Dear Friends
Have
you ever wondered how harmoniously opposites exist in this world? The
genders, good and evil, love and hate, cowardice and valour, joy and
grief, birth and death; the list is endless! But are they opposites or
complementary? If they are opposite that means that only one exists at a
certain point in time, but if we dig the surface deeper we find that the
other is present in a parallel plane right below the exterior, which
demonstrates that they are complementary.
Until and unless, we accept both the polarities in self and in the
bigger world we can never have equilibrium in our
lives.
How can we appreciate the light if we have never experienced darkness?
Why do our eyes tear up when we laugh? How does a passive person develop
the courage to stand up for the rights of people and alter history?
In the Chinese philosophy, Yin Yang exists in an equilibrium and each
has the potential for the other and because they arise together they are
always equal: if one disappears, the other must disappear as well,
leaving emptiness. Does that means, for happiness to exist we need grief
in a balance otherwise both would cease to exist. On one hand it is
highly alarming, but on the other quite reassuring. On a mystical level
it starts to make sense about the illusionary world.
Just like there
are peaks and valleys in the topography, there are ups
and downs of life. When we are subjected to either we need to realize
that it is transitory. The phoenix rises from its own ashes and we can
find the strength to rise from rock bottom any time. We need to realize
that motivation like everything else has its ebb and flow and the entire
humanity goes through it, even though we feel we are alone in our
suffering, but we share this similar fate with the rest of the humanity
as well; the only difference is perhaps the intensity.
When we are going through a low phase in our lives, we inspire ourselves
by believing that it will not last; and when we are feeling joy we
savour it to the fullest as these moments are very brief.
Always look forward to your
suggestions / feedback
which helps the Intek team to continually improve this Ezine.

Change Management
The Effects of Change On The Manager
|
One of the least mentioned effects of change relates to
how it affects the manager leading that change, and his or her ability
to undertake the leadership role. We have already talked about the
effects of change on the individual employee, and of course managers are
subject to the same reactions, resistances and strains. Some types of
change, such as restructuring, or downsizing can put considerable strain
on the leaders of an organization.
Stress, Stress & More Stress
One primary concern regarding change is the stress it
imposes on those undergoing the change. Managers, because they have
obligations to their staff, not only have to deal with change as
employees but also need to carry some of the concerns of their staffs.
In the case of downsizing, the stress
levels can be extremely high, because the manager is charged...

Human Psychology
Fear
|
Fear is the foundation of all human
limitations."
Benny the Jet
Benny the Jet was a fighter, a kickboxer. Although very small in
stature he has ventured to fight much larger opponents in full
contact tournaments and he has beaten them. An achievement which
earned him some acclaim. Before you say, "hey! I thought that
this was a spiritual publication" think carefully and reflect
over your life. What fears have stopped you doing something and
what rewards have you missed out on?
Fear is only an emotion not a brick wall.
We have discovered that you are not your thoughts. We
have discovered that you are not your emotions. Thoughts and emotions
happen ...

Listen Up! Real Listening and How To Practice It
|
|
|
|
Improving Your Listening Skills
Whether
you are an executive, manager or line employee, one of the best things
you can do for yourself is to improve your listening skills. People who
listen effectively are perceived as more helpful, more "in tune" and
tend to exert more influence over others than those that are less
effective listeners. Paradoxically, good listeners are listened to more
than poor listeners. In this article, we are going to briefly discuss
effective listening, and suggest an exercise you can use in the privacy
of your own home to help you enhance your listening skills. Not only can
you apply them at work, but in any relationship.
What
Is Effective Listening?
We often
confuse hearing with listening. While hearing is a function of biology,
listening is a function of intentional behavior. It is something ...

Global Non-Verbal Signals - Australia & Bangladesh
|
Singapore
-
The elderly receive great respect in Singapore, thus be sure
to hold doors open for them, rise before they enter a room
and give up your seat to them on public transportation.
-
When seated, cross your legs at the knees so that the sole
of your shoe is not displayed to other people.
-
Littering is strictly forbidden in Singapore, and anyone
caught violating this law is subject heavy fines. This
includes the throwing away of cigarettes also.
-
Singapore, like Malaysia, hosts a mixture of Malay, Chinese
and Indian cultures, so the respective customs and mores
apply.
 |
Sri Lanka
-
Although the British culture is a strong influence in Sri
Lanka, there are still many different ethnic groups and
castes in the country, and each hosts its own cultural
nuances.
-
Always extinguish a cigarette before you meet someone.
-
People in Sri Lanka often smile instead of saying "thank
you" However, a Western woman should be cautious about
smiling too much, as this may be seen as a sign of
flirtation.
-
As stated previously, a caste system still exists in Sri
Lanka, so if you invite someone to sit down with you and
they are reluctant to do so, please do not keep insisting.
-
Any image of Buddha is sacred, thus do not ever touch, lean
or sit on one.

Bits & Pieces

-
If you
really want to succeed, form the habit of doing things that people
who are failures don’t like to do.
-
There was
a very cautious man
Who never
laughed or played
He never risked, he never tried
He never sang or prayed
And when he one day passed away
His insurance was denied
For since he never really lived
They claimed he never died.

Don’t be a
workaholic, seek a balanced life, advises James A. Autry, president
of the magazine group of the Meredith Corporation, in his book....
