Stress Management

1.  Always set up contingency plans, "just in case." ("If for some reason either of us is delayed, here’s what we’ll do.." Or, "If we get split up in the shopping center, here’s where we’ll meet.")

2.  Relax your standards. The world will not end if the grass doesn’t get mowed this weekend.

3.  Pollyanna-Power! For every one thing that goes wrong, there are probably 10 or 50 or 100 blessings. Count’em!

Dear Friends

The summer is in full swing , and our thoughts turn to vacation. We look at the pile of files on our desks and offer a silent prayer, requesting the divine powers to grant us exceptional strength to overcome this Herculean task.

Some of us are the ones who cherish their vacation time and spend considerable time planning it. Others have difficulty with vacations, We are the workaholics of the organization. Our jobs tend to dominate our lives, and as a consequence we find it hard to take time off and enjoy some well deserved vacation.

While we greatly appreciate your dedication to your job, it is important for you to remember that there is life outside the City. If the truth be known, employers do not give vacation time simply to be nice. Vacations actually are a productivity enhancer. Vacations refresh the body, rejuvenate the mind, and restore the soul. A change of pace is essential to help you relax and balance the multiple demands in your life. Vacations let you recharge your batteries so you can put your best energies into your job as an employee.

A vacation with a cell phone and a lap top computer is not a real vacation. For a vacation to have its full restorative effect, it’s best not to check in with the office at all. There are two reasons for this. You need an uninterrupted break, and everyone in your work area needs an uninterrupted break from you.

Do not feel guilty at looking forward to the holiday, as we all will be working really hard to recharge our batteries, pump up the creative stores and release all the trapped negative energy which coerces us to lash out at our team members or family members throughout the year.

It is the same destructive chi which keeps building stores underneath a calm subterfuge of a very professional person of the corporate world, yet malevolently transforms us to be ace politicians, safe players with minimal risk taking, weak decision makers and insecure with our livelihoods. A pretty bleak picture of our daily lives. Well! Now the time has come to remedy that…..

To empty our minds of this ceaseless chatter we need to go away from the concrete jungles into an actual green forest. The further away from the city life it is, the more beneficial it will be. When we go deep into the forests on a trail, the forest out there becomes the very essence of our existence and the trail itself becomes a part of self-discovery; with the backdrop of nature, all our senses are in complete harmony, giving way to divine wisdom to encircle our physical plane bringing about profound changes in our lives.

All the negative domination gives way to purified and cleansed soul, providing the right perspective for our life ahead.

Wishing all our friends a happy, relaxing and rejuvenating holiday. May you find the answers to all your queries amidst all the elements of nature.– a repose to re-think the priorities in life and a chance to merge with nature.

Always look forward to your suggestions / feedback which helps the Intek team to continually improve this Ezine.

Delegation

Are You on Overload? Delegation is One Key

You probably know that delegating work to others is a great and appropriate way to save time, prioritize your own agenda and to focus on what you “should” be doing.

However, knowing when and how to delegate well is the key to being successful at it. First, what does it mean to delegate?

Del-e-gate: to assign responsibility or authority

Next, are you successful at delegating tasks in your life and work? If not, what gets in the way of successful delegation? Here are a few common factors:

+ You have not taken the time to analyze all you are doing and therefore do not have the awareness of what you could delegate.
+ You are a control freak and feel the need to do it all yourself.
+ You do not have the confidence that anyone else could do it well enough.
+ You enjoy doing it and don't want…

Thinking

A Framework for Thinking Ethically

This document is designed as an introduction to thinking ethically. We all have an image of our better selves-of how we are when we act ethically or are "at our best." We probably also have an image of what an ethical community, an ethical business, an ethical government, or an ethical society should be.

Ethics really has to do with all these levels-acting ethically as individuals, creating ethical organizations and governments, and making our society as a whole ethical in the way it treats everyone.

What is Ethics?

Simply stated, ethics refers to standards of behavior that tell us how human beings ought to act in the many situations in which they find themselves-as friends, parents, children, citizens, businesspeople...

Managerial Skills

Hire the Right People

Managing stress is not easy if you don't have the right people in your business or team.

One of the biggest challenges any business owner or manager has is hiring the right people.

I've recently discovered a simple, inexpensive yet very effective way which will help you get it right.

This week I've asked Nathan Chanesman, Managing Director of Myprofile Pty Ltd. to please explain…

"Without quality employees who share your vision and work ethic your business is not going anywhere.

So how do you find the "right" employee?

We've all experienced hiring the "wrong" person. It's a nightmare. Hiring mistakes costs money, time and worse can easily ruin your business and your health! A recent survey in Forbes Business Magazine revealed, "Hiring the wrong person is the prime cause of business failure in the USA". For most employers it's a lottery, hire someone and hope

Cross Cultural Awareness

Global Non-Verbal Signals - Kenya & Jordan

Kenya

  • The most common form of greeting is the handshake, however some local tribes show greetings by gently slapping palms and then gripping each other's fingers which are cupped.

  • Never use your left hand to accept a gift.

  • Always ask permission before you take a photograph of a local resident.

Jordan

  • Among senior citizens and the more traditional Jordanians, the "salaam" gesture may be used. This is done by taking the right hand, touching the heart, then the forehead and then gesturing forward. The verbal saying is, ""salaa alaykum", or "peace be with you".

  • When dining, it is common to refuse additional servings of the meal at least two times, but then accept the third offer if you do actually wish more.

  • It is considered to polite to leave small amounts of food on your plate.

  • Coffee in the Middle East may seem thick and strong to foreigners. This coffee is served in small cups which are refilled often. If you wish to signal that you do not wish to have any more coffee, then just tip the cup back and forth with your fingers.

  • If you cross your legs, do so at the ankles or the knees, because it is considered improper to place one ankle on the other knee.
