Stress Management

1. Do something for somebody else. Make a meal for someone who is in need.

2. Focus on understanding rather than on being understood; on loving rather than on being loved.

3. Do one thing at a time. When you are with someone, be with that person and with no one or anything else. When you are busy with a project, concentrate on doing that project and forget about everything else you have to do.

Dear Friends

Vacation time is drawing near and we look at the pile of files on our desks and offer a silent prayer, requesting the divine powers to grant us exceptional strength to overcome this Herculean task.

Do not feel guilty at looking forward to the holiday, as we all will be working really hard to recharge our batteries, pump up the creative stores and release all the trapped negative energy which coerces us to lash out at our team members or family members throughout the year.

It is the same destructive chi which keeps building stores underneath a calm subterfuge of a very professional person of the corporate world, yet malevolently transforms us to be ace politicians, safe players with minimal risk taking, weak decision makers and insecure with our livelihoods. A pretty bleak picture of our daily lives. Well! Now the time has come to remedy that…..

To empty our minds of this ceaseless chatter we need to go away from the concrete jungles into an actual green forest. The further away from the city life it is, the more beneficial it will be. When we go deep into the forests on a trail, the forest out there becomes the very essence of our existence and the trail itself becomes a part of self-discovery; with the backdrop of nature, all our senses are in complete harmony, giving way to divine wisdom to encircle our physical plane bringing about profound changes in our lives.

All the negative domination gives way to purified and cleansed soul, providing the right perspective for our life ahead.

Wishing all our friends a happy, relaxing and rejuvenating holiday. May you find the answers to all your queries amidst all the elements of nature.

As always look forward to your suggestions / feedback which helps the Intek team to continually improve this Ezine.

Associating Ideas

In The Society of Mind, Marvin Minsky writes:
"An idea with a single sense can lead you along only one track.
Then, if anything goes wrong, it just gets stuck- a thought that sits in your mind with nowhere to go."

Connect any idea you have to other things you know, see to what this inspires you. Not only will this give you different ways to go (so if the first solution doesn't work, you can solve the problem another way), but it may lead to other ideas, even richer than the first you can up with.

Case of the month

Improving your vision about perception

Most people with university degrees wear glasses. It seems to be a fact of live. The more you use your eyes, the worse they get. Now, is this really so? Some compelling evidence that the truth may offer other options promoted this subject to "case of the month".

Factors decreasing "good sight"

The theory above that your eyes get worse as you grow older dates from more than 200 years ago. The "official line" is that you can't do anything about it, except wear glasses, lenses or laser treatment. At the turn of the century William H. Bates, a Medical Doctor, began to question this "official line". Finding out

Self Development

9 Strategies For Regaining Your Work Life Balance

I like working with independent professionals and artists because of the way the work life balance shows itself in our lives - for us, life, work, and business exist in a nexus from which we cannot easily extract our ways of loving, relating, and making meaning. The challenges we face in business inform our personal lives and personal challenges affect our businesses.

Rich as it is, the relationship between personal and professional life can be rocky and maintaining the work life balance is often a tricky issue. I experienced this recently when, within a few weeks of declaring some audacious goals for my business, a routine mammogram turned up some abnormalities. In the following weeks I had additional mammography, a biopsy, and surgery, with the happy outcome that the abnormalities were benign. I wanted to put the experience behind me and get back to work, full speed ahead.

The problem was that ...

Leadership

Role Modeling for Employees

10 Tips For Taking Yourself Seriously, So Your Employees Do, Too

  • Be on time every day. It's your business. Lead by example.
Don't make a habit of leaving early. Your employees will resent you if you walk out the door at three and call them from the gym at five-thirty to check in.

  • Don't go drinking with your assistant. Or swap stories. Again, you're the adult now. You need to set the example. What you do in your private time away from the office should remain fodder for your peers, not your subordinates.
Even when you're dying to tell someone about last night's disastrous date, resist the urge.

  • Don't ask them to do anything that is not work-related. It's rude and fosters resentment. This includes walking your dog, picking up your dry cleaning, and buying your personal holiday presents, unless, of course, the job is personal assistant.

  • Don't let them...

How to Set Boundaries with Problem Employees

I'm Not your Mom, your Buddy, or your Shrink

You’ve worked with them. The employee who plagues you with chronic personal problems. The manager who constantly expects you to wave your magic wand and make all his “people” problems disappear. The worker who suddenly starts coming in late, making mistakes, and missing deadlines. In short, the twenty percent of your employees who take up 80 percent of your time.

Among the many hats human resource professionals are asked to wear, unofficial company “shrink” is often one of them. This is both a blessing and a curse. On the one hand, human resource professionals who are empathic and available are much more likely to earn the trust of their managers and employees – and to save their company millions of dollars by resolving interpersonal complaints that could easily wind up in a courtroom. On the other hand, it can be tough to know how to draw the line between being empathic and enabling, not to mention carving out enough time and emotional energy to get your other tasks done.

Believe me, I know how hard it is to set boundaries. Before I found a way to  ....
