Stress Management

1. When feeling stressed, most people tend to breathe in short, shallow breaths. When you breathe like this, stale air is not expelled, oxidation of the tissues is incomplete and muscle tension frequently results. Check your breathing throughout the day and before, during and after high pressure situations. If you find your stomach muscles are knotted and your breathing is shallow, relax all your muscles and take several deep, slow breaths. Note how, when you’re relaxed, both your abdomen and chest expand when you breathe.

2. Learn to live one day at a time.

3. Every day, do something you really enjoy.

Dear Friends

In every questionnaire that I fill they want to know my nationality, where I come from and I often wonder if it is indication enough to my inner personality. I hesitate sometimes as I know that the preconceived ideas about my race are going to effect the judgement of the person reading my profile. Is it important for whatever project I will be indulging in, to know the habits of my ancestors so that I can reconfirm the perception of the other person.

To be in line with the universal trends, we all are pretending to overlook the racial aspects but in our minds whenever we see a person with physical features familiar to a particular race, (click) our mind has given its verdict; And all the experiences we have had with that particular race are brought in our active memory to fulfill the self-defeating prophecy. All this happens so fast in our mind that even we are not aware of this exploit.

Its so strange, but after conducting training, under the umbrella of United Nations, for the so called three races Caucasoid, Negroid, and Mongoloid, I found that we all shared similar problems whether they were work related or personal. Beneath the different skin colours and features we are all one.

The entire world is now becoming a mix of multicultural societies. For the first time in history we are becoming aware that each individual and each culture has a unique perspective on the whole of human experience in our world and cosmos, giving us a basis to move beyond tolerance into mutual respect. We are shifting from the belief that there is One True Story to the understanding that a multiplicity of stories can co-exist if we agree on basic values of Respect for Self and Others.

A World Citizen or Global Player today has learnt to overcome the prejudices in his/her mind with the certainty that it will be reflected back to him, positively. How I treat others is how they will treat me and more importantly How I see myself is how they will see me. So If I feel that the whole world is out to get me because of my genome, I will make my fears come true.

The next generation is my hope for a global family. We must teach them not to totally disregard the old system, but to critique it for bringing us to where we can see our unity with all life and evolve into cooperative global community. We see that most young people are moral and creative in positive ways, that they show signs they will not perpetuate racism, that they love ethnic diversity, that they identify with youth all over the planet, that they want to develop spiritually as they take on the practical tasks of cleaning up environmental devastation and learning to form global community. We need to encourage the young Emerging Leaders in all these matters, to listen to them, empower them, give them visibility and help them take on the responsibility for which they are ready. They are our hope and they are the future.

As always look forward to your suggestions / feedback which helps the Intek team to continually improve this Ezine.

Idea of the month

What did you learn lately?

In accordance to Maslow's predictions related to the hierarchy of needs model, more and more people are entering an era where personal growth becomes a key factor. Learning, whether it is professionally or personally, means growing. Growth equates satisfaction and self-esteem. Yet, we may be learning more than we realize, or maybe less… Indeed, it is surprising how few people can actually reproduce the overview of their key leaning points of say, the last 6 months. So you might pause for 5 minutes before continuing to read this newsletter to answer that question for yourself.

Case of the month

Combining Assertivity and Empathy

Over the last month, on several occasions I took the train from Antwerp to Amsterdam. Like the Scotsman, the Dutch are notorious penny pinchers. So I wasn't surprised that 3 out of the 15 passengers in my train wagon didn't have a valid ticket. Collecting the money that is owed to the Duch railways isn't an easy job. This is a period during which the Dutch ticket inspectors are complaining about aggression on board of their trains. A week ago, some got even hit with a lead pipe. So, often those inspectors work in pairs, or even with 3 or 4 at the time.

In this case, I was surprised by the way a female ticket inspector, working all by herself, was dealing with it. I really admired her demonstration of emotional intelligence.

Her first "customer" made it seem like a "mistake" - the inspector showed empathy, and

Creativity

The 6 Myths Of Creativity

A new study will change how you generate ideas and decide who's really creative in your company.

These days, there's hardly a mission statement that doesn't herald it, or a CEO who doesn't laud it. And yet despite all of the attention that business creativity has won over the past few years, maddeningly little is known about day-to-day innovation in the workplace. Where do breakthrough ideas come from? What kind of work environment allows them to flourish? What can leaders do to sustain the stimulants to creativity -- and break through the barriers?

Teresa Amabile has been grappling with those questions for nearly 30 years. Amabile, who heads the Entrepreneurial Management Unit at Harvard Business School and is the only tenured professor at a top B-school to devote her entire research program to the study of creativity, is one of the country's foremost explorers of business innovation. ...

Entrepreneurship Trends

Gender Gaps in Potential for Entrepreneurship Across Countries and Cultures

Abstract
Differences between men and women with respect to traits associated with the potential for undertaking entrepreneurial activities were measured to determine whether gender "gaps" in these traits vary across countries and cultures. In this seventeen-country study, the male-female gap in internal locus of control orientation was found to be negatively correlated with Hofstede's masculinity dimension of culture. The gender gap in risk-taking propensity was positively correlated with the individualism dimension of culture and negatively correlated with the uncertainty avoidance dimension of culture. Gender gaps in entrepreneurial traits were greatest among advanced economies and least among the less developed economies.

Key words: Gender, culture, entrepreneurial traits, entrepreneurship potential

Statistics on women-owned businesses in the U.S. suggest that the "gender gap" in terms of entrepreneurial activities and new venture creation has been closing rapidly. The National Foundation for Women Business Owners reported that, from 1970 to 1992, the proportion of women-owned "C" corporations grew from five percent to more than 33 percent (Starr & Yudkin, 1996). The number of selfemployed men increased by 54% from 1975 to 1990, while the number of self-employed women more than doubled during the same time period (Devine, 1994). This trend is expected to continue. Studies conducted in the late 1990s predicted that.....

Successful Telemarketing

Telemarketing is not as easy as it looks. Telemarketing involves talking on the phone to someone you do not know and trying to convince them to buy a product, use a service, or sign up for a special offer. Many times, telemarketers fail because they are not doing the job properly.

Speaking is a skill, and there are techniques that can be applied to speaking that will help anyone become a successful telemarketer. These are the seven steps to successful telemarketing.

Step #1: Motivation. One of the most important things in telemarketing is motivation. Someone has to want to do the job. The overall motivation will determine how they speak to people. So, successful telemarketers are very motivated to do the job.

Step #2: ....
