Stress Management

1.
Ask questions. Taking a few moments to repeat back
directions, what someone expects of you, etc., can save hours.
(The old "the hurrieder I go, the behinder I get," idea).
2. Say "No!." Saying "no" to extra projects, social
activities, and invitations you know you don’t have the time or
energy for takes practice, self-respect, and a belief that
everyone, everyday, needs quiet time to relax and be alone.
3. Simplify, simplify, simplify...

Dear Friends
Welcome back to the lively and energetic world of Intekworld.
A
month has already passed since the new year, and all of us are amidst
the hustle bustle of our businesses. So much is happening within and
outside our organizations. Every aspect of the business is altering by
the minute. Take-overs, acquisitions, overnight profits, plunging of
safe businesses, mushrooming competitors, innovative marketing
campaigns, challenging customers etc. What should we do? How can we
secure whatever we have today to ensure a safer tomorrow? There are no
guarantees !! The only power a person has in such a whirlwind world, is
himself/ herself. I am my greatest asset. My resilience, adaptability,
and my comfort with uncertainty is the only asset to see me through the
zooming new millennium.
Why am I so enwrapped in my own little world that I fail to see the
changes around me? Why am I under the illusion that life follows one
straight path, whereas day - night, climates, seasons, moods,
biorhythms, business dynamics, job descriptions, governments; everything
is changing around me.
Why do
I
resist change so much? When I know, that the only way to ensure
continuous success is by constantly changing. “If I always do what
I have always done I will always get what I always got” The time
has come for us to make a list of all our repetitive actions which have
stagnated our progress. The only place to look for the barriers is,
inside our personalities. What mind sets need to be exorcised? What
demons need to be slayed? What baggage do I need to let go? Time to make
appropriate changes in my life – no matter how uncomfortable they may
make me feel. Some of these habits are draining the life out of me and
still I carry on. After all I am responsible for my life and that of my
future generations. If they don’t see me adapting to the new
environment, they will grow up to be rigid individuals; so I have to be
the catalyst. If not me then who if not now then when????
But how do I know that I need to bring about some changes in life? The
following signs give us the indication:
-
Discomfort: This is the mildest
and earliest warning that change is required. The sense that
something is not quite right, an inner voice tells you that action
is needed. This uncomfortable feeling makes you feel inconsistent
with your basic desire to be at peace.

-
Fear: Much more intense than a
mild form of discomfort, fear can manifest as worry, anxiety, panic,
fright or even terror.
-
Frustration: The inner feeling
of having been down this road before and still not have arrived at a
solution. This feeling can lead to feelings of inadequacy and guilt.
-
Anger: Knowing you need to
change and not being able to accomplish the task can lead to a form
of anger. This may manifest as anger toward you, but not always.
Increasing amounts of anger towards others could also be a sign that
change is needed.
-
Guilt: Quite often those who are
needing some kind of change will undergo some form of guilt for not
having made the changes in their life that are really obvious and
needed.
-
Depression/Overwhelm: Advanced
stages of long overdue need for change can bring about a feeling of
helplessness and feelings of loss of control in one’s life.
Loneliness and detachment from others can result. Often people
diagnosed as clinically depressed are simply cases where someone has
fought change and lost.
Wishing all our readers the insight to reassess their lives and bring
about appropriate changes for incessant successes henceforth
As always look forward to your
suggestions / feedback
which helps the Intek team to continually improve this Ezine.

Idea of the month:
Deserving
|
Most people think they deserve something if they worked hard for it,
or if they want it very badly, or if they have the money to buy it.
And often they use this "deserving" as a reason why someone else
should give them something.
However, the only relevant factor in "'deserving" something is being
able to appreciate it. if you can fully appreciate something, then
you deserve it
I don't deserve a big TV-even though I could buy it-because I don't
enjoy watching TV. Even if I bought it and saw it, I wouldn't really
have it, because it would mean nothing to me. That would truly be
casting "pearls before swine."
But if I can appreciate a painting, I deserve it because I respond
to it and find it beautiful. And because I can appreciate it, I can
truly have it fully, even when I can't buy it and own it.
If you want to deserve things, learn to appreciate them, and they
will be yours.

Case
of the month:
How much training did you get?
|
Since
1990, we have been hearing how important learning is. It's indeed a big
market. In 1998, the US companies spent 66 billion dollars on training. May
2000 was the month of ASTD, the American Society for Training and Development.
Let me share the HR tendencies I noticed. The figures are base on the 1999
Industry Report from Training Magazine and various ASTD reports.
Livelong learning is here to stay. More and more money and time is spend on
training people. In 1998, the training expenditures in the US increased to
2% of payroll. In Europe, the expenditures even reached 3,2% of payroll.
This means 29 hours (US) to 49 hours of training a person. US Benchmarking
participants projected a 14% jump in training expenditures between 1998 and
1999. ....

Strategic Thinking
A New View: Strategic Thinking and Planning
|
Things that you nurture, and
support, and give energy and time to WILL grow in your life. And in
contrast, things can’t exist if you don’t support them. If you have
something in your life that you don’t want there, identify how you are
supporting it.
As the year begins it is the perfect time to acknowledge the uncertainty
that we are currently experiencing in the business environment, and in
our lives. Our most basic assumptions have been challenged, and for many
of us there is an overwhelming desire to sit tight.
While a lot seems to be on hold, now is the perfect time to move
forward. If you are not sure where to begin, think about a strategic
thinking and planning process. While planning right now might seem like
the last thing on your mind, strategic thinking is a very comfortable
way to help you gain momentum to take positive action.
The Big Picture - With a structured process to fall back on, ....

Benefits of Employee Training
|
Training
your workers can be a tremendous drain on your time and resources. But
before you dismiss the idea of helping your employees learn new skills,
consider the ways that skill-based training can positively affect your
employees and your company.
Training increases employee productivity. In addition to learning
how to complete new tasks and take on more responsibility, employees can
learn advanced techniques to help them complete everyday tasks more
efficiently. For example, sending your bookkeeper to an advanced Excel
class may help him or her learn shortcuts to simplify the accounting
processes.
Training reduces turnover. Employees who don't receive guidance
or have difficulty learning the ropes are much more likely to leave your
company. Employees are less likely to leave if they have the :...

Managing People
The Human Factor in Managing People
|
In the management of a small team, the human factor is crucial to
success. This article considers possible motivators and a simple
framework for dealing with people.
When you are struggling with a deadline or dealing with delicate
decisions, the last thing you want to deal with is "people". When the
fight is really on and the battle is undecided, you want your team to
act co-operatively, quickly, rationally; you do not want a disgruntled
employee bitching about life, you do not want a worker who avoids work,
you do not want your key engineer being tired all day because the baby
cries all night. But this is what happens, and as a manager you have to
deal with it. Few "people problems" can be solved quickly, some are
totally beyond your control and can only be contained; but you do have
influence over ...

Life Skill
Developing a More Powerful Intuition
|
Webster's dictionary defines the word psychic as someone who
communicates with spirit. The American Heritage Dictionary defines it as
extraordinary extrasensory and nonphysical, mental processes.
According to the above definitions, everyone is psychic, because
everyone has spiritual gifts and capacities he/she is meant to be using
more intimately, to guide and direct his/her life.
We have become conditioned to using our physical senses and logical
thinking minds as the compass of our lives. By fine-tuning our spiritual
senses, we will be able to choose more effortlessly, with fewer and
fewer detours, the direction our lives could be taking.
Spiritual gifts include intuition, discernment, precognition, spiritual
empathy, visionary skills, working of miracles, powers of healing, and
powers for self-healing.
Intuition is a clear knowledge or insight of what is right for you, free
of any logical or rational processes. Intuition is a function of the
sixth chakra....
