Stress Management

1. Procrastination is stressful Whatever
you want to do tomorrow, do today; whatever you want to do today, do
it now.
2. Plan ahead. Don’t let the gas tank get below one-quarter full.
Keep a well-stocked emergency shelf of home staples. Don’t wait
until you’re down to your last bus token or postage stamp to buy
more, etc.
3. Don’t put up with something that doesn't work right. If your
alarm clock, wallet, shoe laces, windshield wipers, whatever are a
constant aggravation, get them fixed or get new ones.

Dear Friends
As I was
coaching a CEO of a renowned pharmaceutical enhancing his leadership
traits, I realized how different leadership can be between entrepreneurs
and corporate executive employees.
Although similar in many ways, some notable differences that I observed
are:
-
Risk Taking: Entrepreneurs
plunge at initial reactions while corporate executives take much
longer at evaluating and assessing the repercussions of their
actions and involve their juniors to support their gut feelings.
-
Ability to find opportunities:
Corporate executives have the ability to identify problems in a
situation while Entrepreneurs have the ability to find opportunities
with the same problems. Thus the “process of elimination” varies
from approach to approach.
-
Ability to “Cut Loss”: While
entrepreneurs have the ability to abandon and absorb incurring loss,
(as traders in financial markets learn - hence the term “Cut Loss”),
executive employees try and hang on to losing positions in order to
save face and perceived worth primarily with others around them.
-
Insecurity level: While
insecurity may exist at both levels yet intensity is indeed greater
at the executive level irrespective of seniority. Needless to say,
insecurity will be higher wherever “perceived stakes” are higher and
fallback is minimum. True entrepreneurship evolves from high
fluctuations and touching zero several times confirming bouncing
back abilities of successful persons.
-
Self Perception: Varies
according to culture but self worth, ego, image etc. varies
significantly amongst entrepreneurs and corporate executives. On
“one to one” interaction a true entrepreneur is more likely to be
humble and modest than the corporate counterpart. (barring a few
exceptions ofcourse)
The above views are
merely observations and cannot be taken as scientific evaluation.
Practically the traits of personalities vary from person to person who
fill the positions, whether as an entrepreneur or as a corporate
employee.
If you have any comments on this brief write-up please do reply at
haseeb@intekworld.com I would
gladly consider your point of view and add to my limited exposure. Wish
you the best!
As always look forward to your
suggestions / feedback
which helps the Intek team to continually improve this Ezine.

Idea of the month:
Leisure time
|
Did you know that most people underestimate the amount of leisure
time they have?
And what is worse, the same study shows that 40% of leisure time
gets lost by watching TV!
We have some suggestions for you:
(1) Grow yourself a leisure tree:
people seem to forget what they want to do. Take a piece of paper
and cluster your ideas for leisure activities on it so you'll
remember. You might want to group them as follows: (a) activities
that turned me on in the past, (b) activities that turn me on today,
(c) new activities I have thought of doing and (d) activities that
will get me physically fit. You should get at least 50 idea's on
your page. Success!
(2) Move to "active TV watching"
Find yourself new ways of spending hours in front of your TV so that
you make better use of your leisure time.
(one solution: make sure your TV isn't plugged in, while you pursue
more rewarding activities in front of it!)

Case
of the month:
Negotiation Skills - Reaching a win-win
|
Several books discussing
negotiation skills all point in the same direction:
it's empathy that is making the difference!
-
Now what is empathy?
Let's start by saying what it is NOT.
-
It is not trying to match
the other person during communication and/or giving the impression that you
agree with him
-
It is not trying to use
your own thinking process: "what would I do if I were ...

Self Development Part II
Self Acceptance
|
elf acceptance is being loving and happy with who you are NOW. Some call
it self-esteem, others self-love, but whatever you call it, you'll know
when your accepting yourself cause it feels great. Its an agreement with
yourself to appreciate, validate, accept and support who you are at this
very moment, even those parts you’d like to eventually change. This is
important...even those parts you'd eventually like to change. Yes, you
can accept (be okay with) those parts of yourself you want to change
some day.
The Motivation Behind Your Lack of Acceptance
If acceptance feels so good and is so good for us, then why don’t we
accept ourselves? The answer is motivation. We use our lack of
acceptance (punishment - cause it feels bad) as motivation to get us to
do, not do, be, and not be what we think we should. Many people believe
that if they accepted themselves as they are, they wouldn’t change or
that they wouldn’t work on becoming more of who they want to be. ....

Defence mechanisms
|
Defence mechanisms (British spelling; Defense mechanisms in American
English) are a set of unconscious way to protect one's personality from
unpleasant thoughts and realities which may otherwise cause anxiety. The
notion of defence mechanism is an integral part of the psychoanalytic
theory. Although often described as detrimental and negative ways that
an individual deals with overwhelming stressors; these mechanisms can
also be applied positively when dealing with conflicts. Used sparingly,
they help people face difficult life situations. However, a defence
mechanism can also lead to a neurosis if it causes a person to adopt
ineffectual or inappropriate coping strategies.
Examples of defense mechanisms include: the examples given here are
generally negative applications of the mechanism; although, these
mechanism can often be used in healthy fashion to deal with stressors ...
