Dear Friends
Thank you for tuning in to Haseeb’s radio show on Planning. The
tremendous response we got from all of you was highly inspirational for
all of us here at Intek.
The listeners of the radio show were stunned to discover that it was
their “Comfort Zone” which was keeping them trapped in their success
barrier and preventing them to plan or to progress forward. One listener
even said that it was like a jolt, a rude wake-up call, l realizing that
he too was lost in that expanse.
We don’t realize that our mind uses various defense mechanism to
rationalize and keep us in our comfort zones. All this goes on in our
lives so smoothly that we don’t even realize it until somebody shakes us
out of that stupor. Our first response to such an awakening is Denial,
which again is a defense mechanism. Oh What a tangled web we weave….
.....

If we are currently satisfied with status quo we are definitely in a
comfort zone. The Comfort Zone is our living, work, and social
environments that we have grown accustomed to. It determines the type of
job we have, the people we associate with and the life style we adopt.
Increasing our awareness to the barriers which are keeping us at the
comfort zone can help us overcome this malady. A few of these barriers
are:
-
Procrastination –
I will try to achieve success someday….
-
Indecision – I
don’t know what is the right decision to take right now..
-
Fear of Failure –
What if I make changes and they don’t work out….
-
Rationalizing – I
am getting a higher salary than my friends, what else do I want….
-
Low Self Esteem –
I don’t deserve anything better
How we visualize
ourselves and our surroundings determines our comfort zone. When we go
above or below this comfort zone or when we are in a situation that
doesn't fit our image of how things should be we can become
uncomfortable and motivated to change things.
By visualizing ourself in a slightly higher situation, we can start to
achieve that position as our new comfort zone. Comfort zones are
directly related to our dreams or goals, which is associated with
self-fulfilling prophecy. (Self-fulfilling prophecy is a phenomenon by
which people’s expectations about the future events lead them to behave
in particular ways that causes the expected event to occur.)
In order to grow and change, we must first be discontent with our
current comfort zone. To change to different life style, we must realize
that all meaningful and lasting changes occur first in visualization and
then they work their way into reality. If we clearly and vividly imagine
ourselves succeeding by frequent repetitions and emotional impact, we
will create a new picture of ourselves. The old comfort zone, in time,
will be unacceptable and we will find ways to acquire the new.
Wishing all our readers the vision to identify and overcome their
comfort zones in order to achieve great heights in all aspects of their
lives

Idea of the month:
Flexibility is the Key
|
"Every Individual is an exception to the rule. --
Hence one can never give a description of a type, no matter how
complete, that would apply to more than one individual despite the fact
that in some ways it aptly characterises thousands of others. Conformity
is one side of a person, uniqueness is the other"

Negotiations - Reaching a Win-Win
|
Several books discussing
negotiation skills all point in the same direction:
it's empathy that is making the difference!
-
Now what is empathy?
Let's start by saying what it is NOT.
-
It is not trying to match
the other person during communication and/or giving the impression that you
agree with him
-
It is not trying to use
your own thinking process: "what would I do if I were ...

Resilience
|
You need to know what resilience is so that you can remember that you
have it. Resilience is an emotional muscle that can grow with use and
practice -- or atrophy if ignored.
Everyone can grow this emotional muscle. Everyone needs to.
You are born with some resilience. You have the choice how to apply it
throughout your life. To grow resilience you need fuel, you need
challenge and you need lots of practice.
Some people believe that resilience is a trait that is inborn; you
either have it or you don't. But that is not quite accurate. You are
born with some component characteristics that ...

Is Perseverance Important?
|
I regularly seem to come across businesses that have pinned their hopes
on one press release. They tell me how they sent it out with excitement
in the pits of their stomachs and then felt the hard cold flop of
disappointment when they didn’t get an army of journalists on the phone
the very next day.
And then, disillusioned, they resign their venture into PR to the past
and move on to what they consider safer tactics.
But what separates these businesses from the ones that do get go on to
get great, continuous press is often one thing, perseverance.
PR is a long-term option and takes perseverance in more ways than one....

Negotiation Skills:
Six Negotiation Terms you Must Know….
|
Negotiation - The process of
give and take in bargaining. Not good or bad – It is a process. Many
avoid negotiation to avoid conflict. Negotiation is about “Power”, not
who is most powerful.
Developing Negotiating skills is only a question of time and
concentration. Anybody can be a good negotiator provided they have the
energy to learn and become better at it.
Here are some important, yet easy to remember, terms that one must know
about the negotiation process…..

Time of Day and Humor in Presentations
|
The first speaker of the day for
an early morning (7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.) program should not expect
hearty laughter. People are not conditioned to laugh a great deal in the
early morning. Many won't even be awake yet. Use more information and
less humor. I was asked by a sales speaker to open up an early morning
seminar. He said, "I just want you to get them laughing before I go on."
I told him that it was not a good idea, but he insisted. I opened up the
seminar with some sure-fire humor to test their responsiveness and got
little response. I cut my material and brought the speaker on stage. He
couldn't get them laughing either. I sat in the audience and watched. By
10:15 a.m. they were laughing at just about anything ...
