Vol 3 Issue 7

Dear Friends

Vacation time is drawing near and we look at the pile of files on our desks and offer a silent prayer, requesting the divine powers to grant us exceptional strength to overcome this Herculean task.

Do not feel guilty at looking forward to the holiday, as we all will be working really hard to recharge our batteries, pump up the creative stores and release all the trapped negative energy which coerces us to lash out at our team members or family members throughout the year.

It is the same destructive chi which keeps building stores underneath a calm subterfuge of a very professional person of the corporate world, yet malevolently transforms us to be ace politicians, safe players with minimal risk taking, weak decision makers and insecure with our livelihoods. A pretty bleak picture of our daily lives. Well! Now the time has come to remedy that…..

To empty our minds of this ceaseless chatter we need to go away from the concrete jungles into an actual green forest. The further away from the city life it is, the more beneficial it will be. When we go deep into the forests on a trail, the forest out there becomes the very essence of our existence and the trail itself becomes a part of self-discovery; with the backdrop of nature, all our senses are in complete harmony, giving way to divine wisdom to encircle our physical plane bringing about profound changes in our lives.

All the negative domination gives way to purified and cleansed soul, providing the right perspective for our life ahead.

Wishing all our friends a happy, relaxing and rejuvenating holiday. May you find the answers to all your queries amidst all the elements of nature.

We appreciate and value your feedback so look forward to your
comments/ suggestions…. to help us improve ourselves

Idea of the Month: Associating Ideas

In The Society of Mind, Marvin Minsky writes:
"An idea with a single sense can lead you along only one track.
Then, if anything goes wrong, it just gets stuck- a thought that sits in your mind with nowhere to go."

Connect any idea you have to other things you know, see to what this inspires you. Not only will this give you different ways to go (so if the first solution doesn't work, you can solve the problem another way), but it may lead to other ideas, even richer than the first you can up with.

Case of the Month:
Improving your perception about vision

Most people with university degrees wear glasses. It seems to be a fact of live. The more you use your eyes, the worse they get. Now, is this really so? Some compelling evidence that the truth may offer other options promoted this subject to "case of the month".

Factors decreasing "good sight"

The theory above that your eyes get worse as you grow older dates from more than 200 years ago. The "official line" is that you can't do anything about it, except wear glasses, lenses or laser treatment. At the turn of the century William H. Bates, a Medical Doctor, began to question this "official line". Finding out ...

 Your Personal Strategic Plan  (article)

Corporations do it. Entrepreneurs do it (well, some of them). Many successful businesses develop a strategic plan to help them get clarity and focus.

For years, I've been helping businesses develop their strategic plan. A few years ago, it occurred to me that you could have a personal strategic plan that would help you individually get clarity and focus on your own preferred future.

The world has become a complicated place in which to live. The past few decades have seen enormous, accelerating changes in: ...

Successful First Impressions  (article)

Imagine that a photograph were taken of you every time you met another person during the day. At the end of the day, put together a mental photo album of all of the pictures-what I call your IC or Image Collection. Ask yourself what you "see" with these questions: "Do I come across as articulate, persuasive, and sure of myself? What happens when I meet someone new? And how trustworthy do I appear?

Right now, stop and ask yourself these questions:

  • What am I ...

Creativity Thinking  - Make it a Habit (article)

There is something mysterious about creativity. We can describe it, admire it, strive for it and experience it, but we can never understand just how or why a certain innovative idea springs up at a particular time in the mind of a particular individual. Indeed, most people never expect to understand or master that process. Let's hope we do not, for our world would be far more dreary if we ever fully harnessed the creative process and learned to produce results only on schedule or on demand.

On the other hand, we can imagine a brighter future if we were able to stimulate the creative process and produce more innovations. Can we, indeed, take action to ....

Team Leadership -  The Manager's role? (article)

There has been much made of the importance of teams in the workplace. Whether you are implementing TQM, or just want to increase effectiveness or employee morale, developing effective cohesive teams is a good tactic. But teams ain't simple. We are going to devote the PSM supplement to examining some principles related to team-building with particular emphasis on the role of the manager or supervisor.

What Is A Team?
Mark Sanborn, an expert on teams, outlines a few characteristics of a team.

First, Sanborn defines a team as being composed of a highly communicative group of people. Poor communication means no team.

Second, ...
