Dear Friends
Evolution is taking place in our personalities so insignificantly -
we are insentient to these changes.
Inward change is followed naturally by a change in one's speaking
habits.
A person can clearly notice this transformation as it takes place
within himself.
He finds himself speaking less impulsively and more consciously,
that
is, he is aware of what he says as he says it.
He does not waste energy in useless talk, and he is not afraid to
remain
silent in certain situations, as many people are.
As his level of being rises, so does the quality of his speech, just
as a growing tree produces higher apples
The more fruit a tree is laden with the more bowed it gets.
Humility is the substantiation of achieving great heights within.
Wishing all our friends the path of self-discovery to achieve
self-actualization.
Thank you for all the encouraging emails. Look forward to your
comments/ suggestions…. to help us
improve ourselves

Idea
of the Month:
|
Are you working on
something you really feel worth doing? Think about the following:
"Projects … are all about emotion. So, when it comes to recognizing
a project that matters to you, trust your emotions. Listen to your
stomach and to your heart. They'll tell you

Case of the Month:
Testing EQ |
Now that most people accept the importance of EQ, everybody seems to look
for a way to measure it. Some examples: Multi-Health Systems, Inc developped
the Bar-On test to measure one's Emotional Intelligence. The book "Executive
EQ" by Robert K. Cooper also contains a test to measure your EQ.
The question is: "Can you really measure one's EQ?" Some observations:
EQ is not absolute: behavior that is a sign of high EQ in one context
may be unacceptable in another context. E.g. in the US and in Western-Europe
"time is money". Coming 15 minutes late on an appointment may be considered
rude. Already in the 50s, Edward T. Hall wrote in his book "The silent
language" that this is not the case in Iran or in Latin America.
EQ tests can be falsified: especially people with a reasonable high IQ
seem able to look behind the test and give the answer that is "desired". If
they do this in a consistent manner, they will score high on the test. E.g.
with enough knowledge from NLP, you can fill out the both tests mentioned in
a way you seem to have a high EQ. However, this doesn't guarantee that
you'll do what you know to be the approach with displays the most EQ.
Compare this to an IQ test, where you know the answer or not.

Visionary Leadership
(article) |
Are
you someone with a vision burning inside that seeks to manifest? Do you
see yourself as a visionary?
What is it that makes a visionary become a visionary leader? A visionary
may dream wonderful visions of the future and articulate them with great
inspiration. A visionary is good with words. But a visionary leader is
good with actions as well as words, and so can bring his/her vision into
being in the world, thus transforming it in some way. More than words
are needed for a vision to take form in today’s world. It requires
leadership and heartfelt commitment.
A visionary leader is effective in manifesting his or her vision because
s/he creates specific, achievable goals, initiates action and enlists

The Gulf: It's a Family Affair (article) |
One of the things that is clear to me is that businesses that permit and
encourage innovation and entrepreneurship in succeeding generations have an
easier time adapting to their environment. —John Davis
Q: Where does family business take you?
Davis: My article on family companies in the Gulf Region was written for a
conference organized by the Kennedy School in Doha, Qatar in 1997. The
frameworks and approaches I used in this article really helped me get some
leverage on understanding the problems that family companies in this region
were facing.
Q: How is family business research changing?
A: The field is becoming much more sophisticated in terms of scholarship and
consulting. The founders of the field have been ...

A
Process for Effective Decision Making (article) |
Life is filled with choices and decisions. Many of
these are minor, but there are also times when we face difficult
decisions. But even though good decision making is enormously
important when we face significant decisions, it's also important to
make good decisions all of the time.
Compulsory and Optional Decisions
There are many different kinds of decisions, of course, from the
very concrete to the very vague. There are also decisions which must
be made, and those that can be put off or not decided at all.
Sometimes, a concrete decision is required. You have to decide if
you want to ...

Business Matters
- Negotiating Tactics
(article) |
Letting the other guy have your way
Every transaction in life involves negotiation. From deciding where to dine
with a friend to renting an apartment, from buying a car to convincing a
child to eat her veggies, we are constantly faced with the opportunity to
negotiate. Since it is such a common encounter, why do most of us get into
such a panic when it comes time to negotiate the purchase of a house, or the
cost of producing a project, or a starting salary for a new job? Probably
because nobody ever explicitly taught us how to negotiate effectively. As
with most things, we tend to avoid or dislike activities in which we are not
confident. Let me suggest that this is a topic well worth your investment of
effort and time.
