Dear Friends
So much emphasis is being given to prolonging life - with the average life
span today being 78 years & expected to go up to 85 within the decade.
Scientists have promised the human race that if they survive the next 20
years they may live forever. Excitement over the human genome project has
obscured a more prosaic reality of the transience of human entity.
Does our need for self preservation in the corporate structures of today,
actually reflecting our inner desire for immortality? Words like "Individual
immortalists" and "species perpetualists are gaining ground in our everyday
lives. We live our life as if we were going to live forever. We strut
arrogantly, commanding injustices, ruthlessly crushing the human spirit and
finally amassing unnecessary wealth for our next generation to flounder. Is
this all about Immortality or are these the tools which keep me preoccupied
from thinking of the inevitable…. What will happen to it all when I die.
What am I leaving behind as a legacy?
Am I too ordinary a human being? Average, no resources, no power to produce
something great that will be remembered for years to come.
I am no Michelangelo, Einstein, Shakespeare or Abraham Lincoln. What do I
do?
To achieve immortality do I need to make a secret pact like Faust or Dorian
Gray. The answers are right there in front of our eyes. The purpose
is not to build a huge foundation contributing to the less blessed of the
world, but to make a difference in lives of ordinary human beings everyday;
no matter how insignificant we may think it to be. Every time we help a
human being we go one step further towards immortality, as the journey
towards it is within the realms of our soul. Perhaps that was the purpose of
our lives, to help and support each other to build a eternal chain of peace
& harmony leading into infinity.
Wishing all our friends the vision to help their fellow human beings in
every plausible way, as means to achieving eternal peace. As always look forward to your
comments/ suggestions…. to help us improve ourselves

Idea
of the Month: Leisure Time |
Did you know that most people underestimate the amount of leisure time they
have? And what is worse, the same study shows that 40% of leisure time gets
lost by watching TV!
We have some suggestions for you:
(1) Grow yourself a leisure tree:
people seem to forget what they want to do. Take a piece of paper and
cluster your ideas for leisure activities on it so you'll remember. You
might want to group them as follows: (a) activities that turned me on in the
past, (b) activities that turn me on today, (c) new activities I have
thought of doing and (d) activities that will get me physically fit. You
should get at least 50 idea's on your page. Success!
(2) Move to "active TV watching"
Find yourself new ways of spending hours in front of your TV so that you
make better use of your leisure time.
(one solution: make sure your TV isn't plugged in, while you pursue more
rewarding activities in front of it!)

Case of the Month:Results
of Systemic Management |
Ever ran into trouble with the
accounting department of some supplier? Well, there is a pattern in those
stories… At all depends from which point of view you look at it. It takes
some systemic thinking to get out of such patterns.
Story line 1:
The company sets up some rules that should be followed for invoicing.
The computer people implement those rules in the invoicing software. The
bookkeeping applies the rules when making the invoices and checks if the
customer is paying.
Story Line 2:
The sales department wants to ...

Decision Making Strategies:
(article) |
Quality teams make decisions using a process called Consensus
Decision-Making. Consensus Decision-Making is important to maintain an
effective team.
Important Note:
Do not confuse Decision-Making with Problem-Solving.
Decision-Making strategies are used in the Problem-Solving process but are
not the same as the logical stepwise progression necessary for effective
Problem-Solving.
Decision-Making strategies involve the interpersonal skills used for a group
to reach a decision. Some Decision-Making strategies involve only one or a
few persons in a somewhat unilateral mode while others involve....

Creating a Brand
(article) |
Having a brand can differentiate your business from your competitors and
drive customer loyalty. And branding isn’t just for multi-nationals with
huge budgets: small and medium firms can create an effective brand by
examining how the business works, what it means to its customers and acting
on the results.

The
New Risk Management (article) |
Risk management is the next wave of solutions to the challenges of
governing modern business. Risk is the latest management buzzword,
and companies are elevating risk managers to the ranks of senior
management to give risk management visibility and clout. Like so
many other business decisions in an uncertain environment, some of
these changes have been successful, and others have had unintended
consequences. Avoiding or mitigating most of these unintended
consequences is possible with the right understanding of the new
role of risk management and the right planning by senior management.
Once risk managers toiled away in the middle ranks of companies
cataloging business properties and buying insurance. Not any more.
The new risk management includes ...

Women
of Talent - Power and Leadership
(article) |
Peggy Orenstein noted in her book "School Girls.." that, although they may
now have more role models for high achievement, and apparently fewer
barriers to equality, girls are still part of a very hierarchical society.
Power is often seen as "who is higher up" and for women, that has typically
been males. Orenstein wrote, "It was clear that, regardless of race and
class, [girls] had still learned to see boys as ultimately more powerful.
Girls' diminished sense of self means that, often unconsciously, they take
on a second-class, accommodating status."
Leadership is often seen - and sought - in a context of social control, and,
perhaps because of that, many adult women may relate to power and leadership
in compromised and conflicted ways. Regardless of their true competence to
lead....
