Dear Friends
The summer is in full swing , and our thoughts turn to vacation.
Some of us are the ones who cherish their vacation time and spend
considerable time planning it. Others of us have difficulty with
vacations, We are the workaholics of the organization. Our jobs tend
to dominate our lives, and as a consequence we find it hard to take
time off and enjoy some well deserved vacation.
While we greatly appreciate your dedication to your job, it is
important for you to remember that there is life outside the City.
If the truth be known, employers do not give vacation time simply to
be nice. Vacations actually are a productivity enhancer. Vacations
refresh the body, rejuvenate the mind, and restore the soul. A
change of pace is essential to help you relax and balance the
multiple demands in your life. Vacations let you recharge your
batteries so you can put your best energies into your job as an
employee.
A vacation with a cell phone and a lap top computer is not a real
vacation. For a vacation to have its full restorative effect, it’s
best not to check in with the office at all. There are two reasons
for this. You need an uninterrupted break, and everyone in your work
area needs an uninterrupted break from you.
Wishing all our friends a relaxing time off, from the usual routines
of life – a repose to re-think the priorities in life and a chance
to merge with nature. It is always a pleasure to receive your
comments/ suggestions.

Idea
of the Month: What did you learn lately ? |
In accordance to
Maslow's predictions related to the hierarchy of needs model, more
and more people are entering an era where personal growth becomes a
key factor. Learning, whether it is professionally or personally,
means growing. Growth equates satisfaction and self-esteem. Yet, we
may be learning more than we realize, or maybe less… Indeed, it is
surprising how few people can actually reproduce the overview of
their key leaning points of say, the last 6 months. So you might
pause for 5 minutes before continuing to read this newsletter to
answer that question for yourself.

Case of the Month: How much training did
you get?
|
Since 1990, we
have been hearing how important learning is. It's indeed a big market. In
1998, the US companies spent 66 billion dollars on training. May 2000 was
the month of ASTD, the American Society for Training & Development. Let me
share the HR tendencies I noticed. The figures are base on the 1999 Industry
Report from Training Magazine and various ASTD reports.
Livelong learning is here to stay. More and more money and time is spend on
training people. In 1998, the training expenditures in the US increased to
2% of payroll. In Europe, the expenditures even reached 3,2% of payroll.
This means 29 hours (US) to 49 hours of training a person. US Benchmarking
participants projected a 14% jump in training expenditures between 1998 and
1999.

Job Description Responsibility Verbs |
It's not easy writing job descriptions.
It's even more difficult to have
uniformity from department to department or even incumbent to incumbent. In
order to help, I am listing the following verbs which should be useful in
identifying and defining the job function. These definitions are important
in the consistency in definition leads to standardization of job
descriptions.
Administer: Manage or direct the execution of affairs.
Advise: Recommend a course of action; offer an informed opinion based
on specialized knowledge.
Analyze: ....

Imagination
(article) |
The Motion of Mind
It is only through imagination that we, as humans can
create. This is our avenue of creation and we constantly use it.
In describing the characteristics of change and listing the
motivations, you are establishing new neuro-networks of thought
and even more important, memory. Consider that any stimulus,
whether based upon real or perceived input, focused upon by the
consciousness becomes a learning experience, which in turn creates
knowledge that is stored as ...

The Basics of Team Building
I n the late 80s and 90s, 'Team Building' has been recognized by many
companies as an important factor in providing a quality service and
remaining competitive. Yet the term 'team building' can sometimes seem
rather nebulous - people often know that they need it, but aren't quite
sure what it is.
What is a team?
Here are some terms that are often used to describe 'a team'. Which ones
do you think define what a team is?

Effective Email Marketing
Techniques
Email marketing when used correctly, can be one of the most
effective marketing techniques around. To get results, each
emailing that you send has to be specific in terms of what you want
each reader to get out of it. Without a clear understanding of what
the purpose is for a mailing, you will not have any way of
determining what impact each has on your business.
There are a number of different ways to use email marketing. The
three most effective ones are: ...
