Vol 2 Issue 11

Dear Friends
Recently I learned a very interesting Law of life called
"The Law of Inner Reflection"
According to this law all that we see around us is the reflection of our inner thoughts ;as if the so called Parallel Universe actually exists within us. It means I have the power to change the world around me by only concentrating on my thoughts. Does that mean that I can play god whenever I want. This means I am the cause of the greatest miseries in life, and yet I blamed other factors for it. I always whispered phrases like “luck was never my friend”, or “He is responsible for messing up my life”, or “I can’t change my destiny..!”

Are we humans equipped to be the masters of the universe? Do we have the two sided coin of Vision and Implementation, Motivation and Discipline, Want and Price. I would rather choose the easier path of not setting goals, blaming luck and just passing life by watching T.V. This would lead to fortification of theory that humans are the only species on earth which has the capacity to destroy itself.

Can we not make a pledge to ourselves today, that we will change the way we think, to bring about a positive transformation of the life around us. If we do that we shall see that life becomes easier, difficult people become amicable, future looks promising. All this can be done in the split of the second that we take the decision to be proactive.

Wishing all our friends the fortitude to change their destiny through the power of ‘self belief’ and ‘positive thinking’.

Look forward to your comments/ suggestions.

Idea of the Month: Associating Ideas

In The Society of Mind, Marvin Minsky writes:
"An idea with a single sense can lead you along only one track.
Then, if anything goes wrong, it just gets stuck- a thought that sits on your in your mind with nowhere to go."

Connect any idea you have to other things you know, see to what this inspires you. Not only will this give you different ways to go (so if the first solution doesn't work, you can solve the problem another way), but it may lead to other ideas, even richer than the first you can up with.

Case of the Month:
combining assertivity & empathy

Over the last month, on several occasions I took the train from Antwerp to Amsterdam. Like the Scotsman, the Dutch are notorious penny pinchers. So I wasn't surprised that that 3 out of the 15 passengers in my train wagon didn't have a valid ticket. Collecting the money that is owed to the Duch railways ain't an easy job. This is a period during which the Dutch ticket inspectors are complaining about aggression on board of their trains. A week ago, some got even hit with a lead pipe. So, often those inspectors work in pairs, or even with 3 or 4 at the time.

In this case, I was surprised by the ...

Emotional Intelligence & 360 Evaluation (article)

Managers ask how they can evaluate their emotional intelligence (EI) and increase their EI quotient. Below are steps for assessing and developing emotional intelligence.

STEP 1: ASSESSMENT
Ideally through a 360 evaluation. Managers who could benefit the most from learning Emotional Intelligence (EI) are often behaviorally blind. They are blind to the impact their behavior is having on others, and on their careers. Remember: it's not how you perceive your behavior. People respond based on their perceptions, not ours. We always have justifications for our behavior, in spite of the negative impact it might have on others. Understanding how others perceive us essential.

STEP 2: ...

Visionary Leadership (article)

Are you someone with a vision burning inside that seeks to manifest? Do you see yourself as a visionary?

What is it that makes a visionary become a visionary leader? A visionary may dream wonderful visions of the future and articulate them with great inspiration. A visionary is good with words. But a visionary leader is good with actions as well as words, and so can bring his/her vision into being in the world, thus transforming it in some way. More than words are needed for a vision to take form in today’s world. It requires leadership and heartfelt commitment.

A visionary leader is effective in manifesting his or her vision because s/he creates ...

How to Make a Smart Life Decision (article)

Learning to make smarter decisions will help you to avoid painful and embarrassing situations in your personal and professional life. Unfortunately, many of us have to learn the hard way, or sometimes never at all, and are left wondering, “How did I get into this predicament again?” When it comes to our career and our relationships, we can not afford to make poor decisions. The good news is that you can learn to make smart decisions and avoid undesirable jobs, people, and situations. In fact, smart decision-making can help you in all aspects of your life.

When relationships or jobs don’t work out as planned, we seldom take the time to find the meaning in the “mess.” If you learn to make use of life’s disappointments and let downs, you will begin to see that all of it---the good and the bad---contain lessons to be learned. Think of yourself as a student, who is still learning about career development, financial management, relationships, and life in general. When you are student of life, you are willing and open to learning, and as a result, ...

 HR Issues - VI  (article)
Resignation and Severance Pay Agreement

Let's say that you have employee who you would like to terminate, but perhaps your documentation isn't quite up to snuff or, to put it another way, you don't have all your ducks in order. In order to terminate employment, you are willing to pay severance provided that the individual will not sue the company for past, current, or future grievances.

This calls for an agreement between the company and the employee which is as ironclad as any such agreement can be. Winning Associates has written many of these agreements, the wording of which conforms to all states' legal standards. In two instances, our clients did have to go to arbitration, but in both instances the arbitrator found in our clients' favor.
