Dear Friends
Our
nine year old daughter Miryll got up one morning and declared with
wonder “Mom! I really enjoy dreaming and do you know that time
does not exist when I dream,.” I was surprised by the profundity
of such an innocent statement. It started my terrain of thoughts….
Have we forgotten how to dream? Has the passion of attaining the
unachievable summits fizzled out inside us? Haven’t we purposely
smothered the childlike excitement of our dreams to generate a
perfunctory being, devoid of hope and motivation? We see such people
around us all the time ( and we ourselves are perhaps like them)
-They have put their dream in a lock box so they could go out and
make a ton of money to support the big house, the fancy car, the
summer vacation, the private schools, etc. The unfortunate outcome
of following this path is that they become so involved in that world
that they don't open up the lock box and set their dream free.
Now we judge everything through the looking glass of raison d'ętre,
we have to justify things logically. “I have a Dream…” The
great speech by Martin Luther still inspires us but we scoff it off
by underestimating ourselves that those were great people who could
dream and also make it come true, but we mere mortals can just
admire their courage and go back to our mundane lives, living in a
self-constructed shell of practicality and so called pragmatism .
As quoted by
two very dynamic women -
“The future belongs to those who
believe in the beauty of their dreams”
- Eleanor Roosevelt
“In forming a bridge between body
and mind, dreams may be used as a springboard from which man can
leap to new realms of experience lying outside his normal state of
consciousness.” Ann Faraday
Wishing all our
friends the frivolity to abandon the refuge of constancy and plunge
into the infinite world of Dreams. Look forward to your

Idea
of the Month: Leisure Time |
Did you know that most people underestimate the amount of leisure time they
have? And what is worse, the same study shows that 40% of leisure time gets
lost by watching TV!
We have some suggestions for you:
(1) Grow yourself a leisure tree:
people seem to forget what they want to do. Take a piece of paper and
cluster your ideas for leisure activities on it so you'll remember. You
might want to group them as follows: (a) activities that turned me on in the
past, (b) activities that turn me on today, (c) new activities I have
thought of doing and (d) activities that will get me physically fit. You
should get at least 50 idea's on your page. Success!
(2) Move to "active TV watching"
Find yourself new ways of spending hours in front of your TV so that you
make better use of your leisure time.
(one solution: make sure your TV isn't plugged in, while you pursue more
rewarding activities in front of it!)

Case of the Month:
Are all customers equal? |
Ever ran into trouble with the
accounting department of some supplier? Well, there is a pattern in those
stories… At all depends from which point of view you look at it. It takes
some systemic thinking to get out of such patterns.
Story line 1:
The company sets up some rules that should be followed for invoicing.
The computer people implement those rules in the invoicing software. The
bookkeeping applies the rules when making the invoices and checks if the
customer is paying.
Story Line 2:
The sales department wants to ...

HR Issues - V (article)
- Art of Delegation |
I t
may seem peculiar to be talking about delegation of responsibilities in a
high-tech world where old catch phrases such as "self-starter,"
"self-motivated," and "must be capable of working under loose supervision"
often appear in the help wanted ads. But, it is because of this umbrella of
"letting people run with the ball" that knowing how and what to delegate is
so important.
Too often managers delegate the "wrong" activities. Too often managers have
no interest in what they delegate and thereby lose control over the process
or function that they are accountable for. If the manager is truly
accountable for the outcome of others activities, then due care must be
taken in how, what, and ...

Collaborative
Decision
Making
(article) |
In the modern workplace, command and-control leadership is out,
replaced by a way of leading that emphasizes collaboration and
participation. We know that if we include the people affected by
our decisions in the decision-making process, we get better ideas
and more buy-in, but the process can take time and may bring up
unresolved issues. And there’s a risk of frustrating people who
provide input and don’t see their ideas reflected in the final
decision. So, how do you know who to involve in a collaborative
decision-making process, and when?
Collaboration doesn’t mean that all decisions should be made by
consensus. Leaders who believe that abdicate their
responsibilities and become passive members of their team, or
waste time and ...

Peak Performance
Attitudes
(article) |
Quality and the sharpness of your performance are directly affected by
your ability to concentrate and keep your emotions stable. I am aware,
however, that many of you may not realize the depth and importance of what
I am talking about.
Most "expert" information on peak performance is usually made of
motivational material or advice on a certain technique to get you to
improve your performance. Although these techniques, such as goal setting,
imagery, and meditation are useful, I believe the most important aspect of
peak performance is that you understand that you are unique and your most
important job is to become the "driver" of your own life. You cannot be
the driver if you are constantly taking directions from everyone else but
yourself. Sooner or later, you must take charge of your life and assume
total responsibility for the results you are getting.

Strategic
Marketing: Branding
(article) |
Brand
is the proprietary visual, emotional, rational, and cultural image
that you associate with a company or a product. When you think
Nike, you might think of Michael Jordan or "Just Do It." When you
think IBM, you might think "Big Blue." The fact that you remember
the brand name and have positive associations with that brand makes
your product selection easier and enhances the value and
satisfaction you get from the product.
Before going any further, however, we should set the record
straight on what a brand is, and is not. Only then can you go about
the process of branding your company and your products. First, your
brand is not just your logo, tagline, packaging or the "look and
feel" of your ads and your website, these are all graphical parts
of your brand identity and are often narrowly, and incorrectly,
referred to as "branding." Here is a much broader definition shared
by many in the brand management community:
