Vol I  No. 12

Dear Friends!
Wishing you all a very happy Eid and a Merry Christmas. Mabrouk to our UAE resident friends on their National Day.

The end of year is near, ever wonder where the time goes by. The definitive line between weeks, months and years seems to fade away and life seems to be a perpetual roller coaster where we do not have time to catch our breaths.

Within these cascades of events we need to find the time and discipline to take stock of our life spent so far. What have I achieved this year? What new skills have I acquired? What social contributions have I made? – Something which will make the world a better place. If I die today, what legacy have I left behind for my children? What actually is the purpose of my existence in this world?

Where do we find all these answers? The answers always lie within. The poet of the East, Iqbal beautifully said “Find the secret of life within the realms of your own consciousness… ” Wishing all our friends the fortitude to seek their spiritual persona.

May we request your Suggestions and feedback on this new format of E Zine.

Pareto Principle 80 – 20 Rule (article)

Research by Haseeb T Hasan CEO Intek Solutions

Vilfredo Pareto (1848-1923) was an Italian economist who, in 1906, observed that twenty percent of the Italian people owned eighty percent of their country's accumulated wealth. Over time and through application in a variety of environments, this analytic has come to be called Pareto's Principle, the 80-20 Rule, and the "Vital Few and Trivial Many Rule." Called by whatever name, this mix of 80%-20% reminds us that the relationship between input and output is not balanced. In a management context, this rule of thumb is a useful heuristic that applies when there is a question of effectiveness versus diminishing returns on effort, expense, or time.

Handling Criticism With Honesty & Grace

This article looks at the basics of Presentation Skills as they might apply to an emergent manager. Management is the art of getting things done. A Presentation is a fast and potentially effective method of getting things done through other people.

In managing any project, presentations are used as a formal method for bringing people together to plan, monitor and review its progress. But let us look at this another way: what can a presentation do for you? Firstly; it puts you on display. Your staff need to see evidence of decisive planning and leadership so that they are confident in your position as their manager. They need to be motivated and inspired to undertaking the tasks which you are presenting. Project leaders from other sections need to be persuaded of the merits of your project and to provide any necessary support.

BRAINSTORMING  (article)

Generating many radical ideas

How to use tool:
Brainstorming is an excellent way of developing many creative solutions to a problem. It works by focusing on a problem, and then coming up with very many radical solutions to it. Ideas should deliberately be as broad and odd as possible, and should be developed as fast as possible. Brainstorming is a lateral thinking process (see the introduction to this chapter for further information) - it is designed to help you break out of your thinking patterns into new ways of looking at things.
